In recent months, there has been an international surge of scientific interest in using wastewater tests as an additional tool to track the spread of the coronavirus. According to research by the KWR Water Research Institute in the Netherlands, about half of those infected with SARS-CoV-2 excrete it in their faeces. Enough virus survives the passage down drains to sewage plants for it to show up when untreated water is tested for the virus’s distinctive genetic fingerprint using PCR analysis.
Wastewater Surveillance Applications
Wastewater can be filtered using the Centricon® Plus-70 centrifugal ultrafilter in 15 minutes. The resulting concentrate can be used to quantitate Viral Particles in Wastewater sample via qPCR.
