#JafzaCommunityStories: Gulf Scientific Corporation Serving the scientific community since 1990

The story of Gulf Scientific Corporation (GSC) and Jafza began in 1993 when GSC built their Dubai headquarters on a land leased from Jafza and established the region’s first hands-on training and local application support centre.

THE STORY OF GULF SCIENTIFIC CORPORATION

Gulf Scientific Corporation (GSC) is a leading provider of laboratory solutions across the Gulf region. They provide a broad spectrum of technologies in the fields of analytical, life and material sciences. Headquartered in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), Dubai, GSC also operates four regional offices and a number of distribution outlets across the Gulf and Levant.

GSC started as a Chromatography company by two brothers: Dr. Wahib Afyouni and Manaf Afyouni, with a focus on two principal partners: Waters and Chrompack. Since its inception the company implemented a set of core values that guided their actions, decisions, and interactions with various stakeholders. These include innovation, customer centricity, teamwork, quality as well as diversity.

The story of GSC and Jafza began in 1993 when GSC built their Dubai headquarters on a land leased from Jafza and established the region’s first hands-on training and local application support centre. Growth and progress led GSC to open their offices in Saudi Arabia in 1997, Kuwait and Bahrain in 2016, and in Oman in 2023. In 2014, GSC set an important milestone by crossing the 200-employee mark. Thirty years later they are one of the largest distributors of laboratory analytical equipment in the region.

Primary activities and distributor model

GSC services a wide range of industries which include clinical, oil and gas, petrochemicals, food and beverage, academia, environmental, pharmaceutical and life sciences. Some notable clients are The Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Municipality, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, G42, Saudi Aramco, King Fahad Specialist Hospital, Saudi Arabia’s Center for Disease Control and The National Guard Hospital, Bahrain Petroleum Company, Qatar Energy and Hamad Medical Corporation, Kuwait’s Ministry of Health and Kuwait University, National Genome Center in Oman, and many more.

Operating a regional Channel Partner model requires a strong focus on logistics and supply chain management. GSC’s business requires fast delivery and temperature control transportation. Although close to the seaport of Jebel Ali, GSC relies heavily on the use of air freight for its logistics operations. Being part of Dubai’s Logistics Corridor is a key competitive advantage.

“Jafza continues to be a valuable partner to our operations. It offers an exceptional location and multiple solutions that streamline our trading and logistics activities. Among the many advantages which Jafza provides, some notable ones include tax exemptions, vital assistance with permits, licenses, and regulatory compliance, and a well-developed infrastructure that significantly reinforces the operational efficiency of our business.”

Growth in the future

GSC aims to discover new markets and opportunities, create new partnerships, and grow and diversify its industry offerings. They will continue to pursue their mission to partner with analytical and life sciences laboratories and provide comprehensive application solutions, aftersales training and technical services.

The well-established infrastructure and ease of doing business in Jafza are seen as key factors to help achieve this mission. With its customer-centric core value, GCS is set to be the preferred choice for analytical laboratories in the region. Jafza aims to support GSC in its endeavours and looks forward to the growth of the company.
